Guest Speakers from the Study Tour 2023

The Lean Nordvest Study Tour 2023 was a fantastic experience filled with wisdom and insights, and our guest speakers played a pivotal role in making this event unforgettable.

In this blog post, we're thrilled to take you on a journey through the highlights of our remarkable guest speakers. From "people-centered leadership" to "troubleshooting" in the manufacturing world, their stories are a testament to the power of knowledge sharing and learning from the best.

Join us as we celebrate these individuals and their contributions to the event.

🔊 Speaker no.1 -
Roger Turvey, Paragon Customer Communications

When someone has successfully managed 5.5k people, and is holding the reins of the fastest growing company in Sunderland, you sit up and listen!

Roger gave us a fantastic insight into his past experiences and his current world. His humbleness and honesty proved time upon time that he is a “people-centred leader”, who steers with a clear strategy that his staff want to be a part of. Roger credited many influencers in his life and brought them to life with his stories (good eyes/bad eyes) and his favourite quotes (Rudyard Kipling, Simon Sinek).

Thank you Roger.

🔊 Speaker no.2 -
Frank Walsh

Otherwise known in the manufacturing world as “The Trouble-Shooter” who parachutes into companies which are in desperate need of help, “The Shepherd” directing his flock from behind, and “The Fox Hunter” in a world of tortoises, hares and foxes.

Frank entertained us with stories from his book J.F.D.I. They all shared a common theme: implementing change is difficult, however it can be achievable with the right people and excellent leadership. And if anyone is going to know this, Frank will!

Thank you Frank.

🔊 Speakers no.3 - Tony Richards and Clare Stewart, Essity

Who wants to turn the management triangle upside down? Tony and Clare do! From a very honest presentation, they explained the radical and exciting changes being implemented at Essity Prudhoe (the largest UK site in the group).

A huge focus on staff means they are unlocking potential and engaging workers, through strong goal deployment, a powerful Skills Matrix, and an innovative accredited apprentice academy.

Thank you Tony and Clare.

🔊 Speaker no.4 - Steve Pollard, Paragon Customer Communications

Driven – Humble – People Smart. These are not just adjectives that describe Steve Pollard, they are also the mantra he work to.

As a COO for multiple Paragan sites across the country, Steve is spreading the message that change is good. With a strong belief that “you only get out what you put in”, he leads from the front, promotes culture change, and is willing to make the most difficult of decisions that many would not even contemplate.

Steve shared his appreciation for Patrick Lencioni’s book “The Ideal Team Player” which revolutionised the way he selects his teams.

Thank you Steve.
